Our therapists can talk you through our many treatment options and help you choose the one that will leave you feeling great.

Those treatment options include:
Power Therapeutic Massage also offers Aromatherapy treatments as well as manicures and pedicures. For a limited time, you can get a coupon for 5% or 10% the price of a massage.

What is Massage?

The word massage is French, and means "friction of kneading". This is probably because in massage, your muscles are gently "kneaded" like bread dough, with pressure applied to sooth tension and promote relaxation. This manipulation of soft tissue can heal the body and improve well-being in various ways. The benefits include improving range of movement, improving circulation, reducing pain, aiding mental health and more.

The History of Massage

While Power Therapeutic Massage was established in 2000, massage has been around since ancient times. It is mentioned in the Old Testament as a beauty treatment favored by the wives of Xerxes. Hippocrates wrote about it in 460 BC, stating that "The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing". Massage has also been linked through writings and artwork to ancient cultures in China, Japan, Egypt, India, Mesopatamia, Greece and Rome.

Massage has remained popular through the ages, with some unusual cultural adaptations along the way. For example, in Romania, a tame bear was trained to walk on patients’ backs to help release tension. This is similar to the Japanese technique that employs a small woman – rather than a large, man-eating mammal – to walk on your back!

Don’t worry – Power Therapeutic Massage does not use bears in our treatments! What we do use are some of the best-trained massage therapists in the Midwest.

What Others Are Saying About Massage

"The mind, which before massage is in a perturbed, restless, vacillating and even despondent state, becomes after massage, calm, quiet, peaceful and subdued; in fact, the wearied and worried mind has been converted into a mind restful, placid, and refreshed."
- Dr Stretch Dowse, Eminent Victorian Physician, 1887

"Moderate-pressure massage therapy significantly decreased stress and heart rate, and caused a shift toward left frontal electroencephalogram (EEG) asymmetry, suggesting that the massage was perceived as pleasant and relaxing, according to a recent study involving 36 healthy adults."
University of Miami School of Medicine Touch Research Institute, Miami, Florida. Authors: Miguel A. Diego, Tiffany Field, Ph.D., Chris Sanders, Maria Hernandez-Reif, Ph.D. Originally published in International Journal of Neuroscience, 2004, Vol. 114, pp. 31-45.
"Massage significantly improved self-rated health, mental energy and muscle pain in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain."
Uppsala University Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, in Uppsala, Sweden. Authors: Dan Hasson, Bengt Arentz, Lena Jelveus and Bo Edelstam. Originally published in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2004, Vol. 73, pp. 17-24.
